Kenyan rapper and youth advocate Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, has called on young people across the country to reject short-term political handouts and instead demand long-term solutions that can improve livelihoods and strengthen the nation.
In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, February 2, 2026, Octopizzo warned that handouts have become a common political tactic, particularly targeting the youth, but offer only temporary relief without addressing deeper structural problems.
“Handouts have unfortunately become a powerful political tool, especially among young people who deserve far more than temporary relief,” the artist said, stressing the importance of dignity, self-reliance, and sustainable development.
Octopizzo outlined key priorities he believes should guide the country’s focus. These include access to quality education that equips young people with practical, marketable skills, creation of meaningful employment opportunities to reduce dependency, and greater investment in creativity, innovation, and talent to grow Kenya’s creative economy.
He argued that short-term giveaways during campaign periods often distract citizens from demanding accountability and meaningful reforms. According to the rapper, such practices fail to create lasting livelihoods or uplift communities in the long run.
Known for using his platform to speak on social and governance issues, Octopizzo urged young Kenyans to recognise their collective power and actively shape decisions that affect their future. He emphasised that real change comes from civic engagement, not short-lived incentives.
As conversations around youth empowerment, governance, and economic inclusion gain momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Octopizzo encouraged young people to register as voters and participate actively in the democratic process.
His message reinforces a growing call for Kenyan youth to move beyond handouts and push for policies and systems that deliver sustainable opportunities for generations to come.
